I have taken many day trips from Baku, but none makes people smile like this one. Two hours west of the capital, in the rolling green hills of Shamakhi, a family of alpacas from the Andes has made Azerbaijan its home. They are curious, gentle and impossibly soft, and they will happily eat from your hand.
Our private Shamakhi alpaca farm tour from Baku combines that joy with real history. First you climb inside the Diri Baba Mausoleum, a two-storey tomb carved into a cliff in 1402. Then you step into the Shamakhi Juma Mosque, founded in the 8th century and one of the oldest mosques in the Caucasus, in the city that was once the capital of the Shirvanshahs and a key stop on the Silk Road.
Next comes the highlight: Alpaca Azerbaijan in Meysari village, the country's first alpaca farm. Walk among the herd, feed them, take the photos your friends will envy and shop for soft alpaca-wool souvenirs. Just a few minutes away, lunch is served at Abqora Restaurant & Wine Club, set among the Meysari vineyards with views of the lake and the hills. Try dolma, qutab and lamb with freshly baked bread, and a glass of local organic wine if you like.
It is a private tour: just your group and a professional English- or Russian-speaking driver, in a sedan, SUV, minivan, Mercedes Sprinter or bus. Perfect for families with children, couples, friends and corporate groups.

Vehicles
One price per car, not per person. This is your strongest selling point here: competitors on Expedia sell similar Shamakhi alpaca tours for $269–$556 per person, so a family of four can pay over $1,000. Say "price per car, not per person" clearly on the page.

For a long time, residents believed in a legend that a sacred person called Diri Baba was buried here and remained imperishable.
