From striped desert hills to the snowy peaks of the Greater Caucasus: Azerbaijan's most exciting mountain escape, in your own private car. Day one takes you from Baku to the red-and-white striped Candy Cane Mountains, then up into the Caucasus to the waterfalls of Laza village and the Shahdag Mountain Resort. Day two is pure adventure: ride the cable car, race down the mountain coaster, fly on the zipline and hike alpine meadows before your driver takes you back to Baku. Our private 2-day Shahdag tour from Baku is the easiest way to see Azerbaijan's wildest landscapes and its best mountain resort in one trip. No group buses and no fixed schedule: just you, your family or friends, and a professional English- or Russian-speaking driver. On day one you leave the Caspian coast for the Candy Cane Mountains near Khizi, where natural layers of red, pink and white rock look like giant striped sweets. Then the road climbs north into the Greater Caucasus. In the mountain village of Laza, under the cliffs of Shahdag, you walk to the foot of the Laza waterfalls, enjoy a mountain-village lunch and soak up some of the most dramatic scenery in the country before checking in at your hotel. Day two belongs to the Shahdag Mountain Resort, Azerbaijan's leading ski and adventure resort, set below Mount Shahdag (4,243 m). Ride the cable car above the clouds, try the mountain coaster, zipline, archery or shooting, hike or ride a horse through alpine meadows in summer, or ski and snowboard in winter. In the late afternoon your driver takes you back to Baku. Choose a sedan, SUV, minivan, Mercedes Sprinter or bus. We can also book your Shahdag hotel, from cozy guesthouses in Laza to the resort's 5-star hotels. Tour highlights • Photograph the Candy Cane Mountains, Azerbaijan's natural "rainbow" hills of red and white stripes • Walk to the foot of the Laza waterfalls, falling from the cliffs above a remote Caucasus village • Drive one of the most scenic mountain roads in the country, with views of Shahdag and Shahdag National Park • Ride the Shahdag cable car high above the valley • Try the mountain coaster, zipline, shooting, archery and alpine trekking in summer, or ski and snowboard in winter • Taste mountain lamb kebab, fresh tandir bread and local honey • Private car, flexible schedule, English- or Russian-speaking driver, free hotel pick-up in Baku Day 1: Baku – Candy Cane Mountains – Laza waterfall – Shahdag About 250 km and 9–10 hours with stops.
