Baku Shopping Guide for Indian Tourists – What to Buy and Where to Find It

Indian tourists consistently rate shopping among their top activities in Baku — and the city delivers. Handmade carpets, genuine saffron, gold jewelry, pomegranate products, and silk are all available at prices that compare very favorably to equivalent quality in India.

Azerbaijani Carpets

UNESCO recognizes Azerbaijan's carpet weaving tradition as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Each region produces distinct patterns and colors. For Indian tourists with an eye for textile quality — the craftsmanship is immediately recognizable. Small wall-hanging pieces fit in carry-on luggage. Mid-size pieces roll and pack well. Buy from the inner quarter shops in the Old City — not the tourist-facing shops at the entrance. Prices are significantly better and quality higher further in.

Saffron — Best Price in the Region

Azerbaijani saffron is among the finest in the world. On the road to Guba and at mountain village markets, local producers sell genuine saffron at prices that make Indian market saffron look overpriced. Buy directly from roadside sellers on your Luxline day trips. Cash only, quality high, prices significantly below what you pay at home.

Pomegranate Products

Azerbaijan's pomegranates — particularly from Goychay — are considered among the finest globally. Pomegranate wine, molasses, dried pomegranate and fresh fruit in season. All available at Taza Bazaar and covered markets. Travel well as gifts. Unique to this region and unavailable at equivalent quality in India.

Gold and Silver Jewelry

Baku's jewelry district near the Old City offers gold and silver at prices reflecting lower local labor costs compared to Indian metro cities. Traditional Azerbaijani silver filigree jewelry is distinctive and beautiful. For Indian wedding shopping — this is worth exploring. Haggling is less common than in India but gentle negotiation is acceptable.

Shopping Malls

Port Baku Mall (next to Holiday Inn), 28 Mall, and Deniz Mall offer international brands at prices comparable to or lower than India. Good options for families who want a mix of local and international shopping in one location.
