Fire Mountain

A hillside burns continuously on the Absheron Peninsula fed by natural gas seeping through the rock, producing a wall of flames several meters wide that has burned without interruption for centuries. Marco Polo documented these flames during his travels through the Baku region in the 13th century. The same fire burns today. The modern indoor museum at Yanardag features 3D models and video installations documenting Azerbaijan's geological identity as the Land of Fire providing context that makes the outdoor experience even more meaningful.
