Where to Start: Baku, Azerbaijan

Start in Baku. The city has the region's best international airport connections, the most modern infrastructure, and a depth of historical and cultural experience that rewards several days before you head west. The Old City, Gobustan, a day trip to Shamakhi — Baku alone justifies the trip. From Baku, the route west takes you through some of the finest landscapes in the Caucasus before crossing into Georgia.

Azerbaijan Highlights (Days 1–5)

Two days in Baku covering the Old City, Flame Towers, Gobustan, and the mud volcanoes. Day three north to Guba — Candy Cane Mountains and Red Village. Day four the mountain road to Khinalig for the oldest village on Earth. Day five west toward Sheki via Shamakhi and Topchu Forest, overnight in the caravanserai.

Crossing into Georgia (Days 6–10)

From Sheki, the Red Bridge border crossing into Georgia takes you directly into the Kakheti wine region — Georgia's most celebrated wine country. Sighnaghi, the walled hilltop town overlooking the Alazani valley, is one of the most photographed settings in the entire Caucasus. Tbilisi follows — two days minimum in the old town, Narikala fortress, and the sulfuric bathhouses of Abanotubani.

Armenia (Days 11–14)

From Tbilisi, the border crossing to Armenia brings you to Yerevan — a pink-stone city with Mount Ararat on the horizon. Geghard Monastery, Noravank, and the dramatic Debed Canyon complete the Caucasus picture.
